"the [other side] is the bigger threat to freedom and democracy at the moment"
This is exactly the argument that Donald Trump thrives on, why soooooo many people who voted for him were holding their nose.
This argument is itself the threat to democracy. It's downright oxymoronic to claim only your side believes in democracy, because democracy requires at least two sides. It's like, either tell me what you're doing to sustain ground rules that a _supermajority_ can agree on, or stfu about democracy.
Sorry, after four years of "New Jim Crow" and uncontested primaries, I've gotten really frustrated with the whole "save democracy" argument. The interest of the people making it seems to begin and end with getting us to vote for them. Whole lotta nothing when it comes to actually rebuilding a system that's resilient against tyranny. If they did that, they'd lose their best argument for voting for them!
"This argument is itself the threat to democracy. It's downright oxymoronic to claim only your side believes in democracy, because democracy requires at least two sides." - very good point, I agree.
One of many issues with left-wing populism is the still existing desire to prevent economic relations between humans worldwide and in order to preserve a wanishing industrial society
